Shaping Up As The Best Ever Defence Exhibition

With IDEX 2005 only a pleasant memory, there is now one year to go until the debut of IDEX 2007 on February 18 of next year, and already more than 80 per cent of exhibit space has been booked. A record 950 defence companies are expected to participate. Faced with this exceptional interest, organizers from the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC) are said to be considering possible options for expanding the amount of exhibit space available for the 2007 edition of the show.

“We know that more than 50 countries will be represented and the number of official delegations will surpass our highest total. We are committed to ensuring that the exhibiting requirements of all exhibitors are met to their highest standard of satisfaction,” said a key organizer of IDEX 2007.

Delegations from Switzerland and Austria have increased their exhibit space in order to meet the needs of national firms wishing to be part of the IDEX event. Companies such as RUAG, which has production sites in Switzerland, Germany and Sweden, are typical of the leading companies that will be present. RUAG is Europe’s largest manufacturer of small-calibre ammunition, with a customer base that extends through military and police organizations. It also develops, builds and integrates weapon, command and control systems for the Swiss Armed Forces as well as other countries.

The Austrian Federal Chamber of Commerce has also partnered with the Austrian Embassy in the UAE to enlarge their national pavilion and accordingly, their presence at IDEX 2007.

EADS together with MBDA have indicated they will occupy more than half of the French national pavilion, an indication of the many new technologies that these companies are developing and are eager to bring to the growing markets of the Middle East, Far East and Asia.

IDEX has also the well-respected company of IPS GmbH as marketing representatives for several Central European countries. As the industrial base of these countries enlarges, we can expect to see more offerings on the defence market from these emerging economies.

“We are greatly honoured and pleased to be appointed the sales representative for IDEX 2007 in the countries of Croatia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia & Montenegro and Slovenia,” a representative of IPS said. “We look forward to this first class exhibition with a great deal of enthusiasm and anticipation. The defence industries in these countries have a unique opportunity to create business during IDEX 2007, and the full weight of IPS and all of our resources will be at their disposal.”
