Turkey has signed a contract for the procurement of 17 military helicopters from the United States.
Turkey's Defense Industry Undersecretariat has signed a contract with the U.S. firm Sikorsky Aircraft for naval helicopters. Under the deal, Sikorsky, based in Stratford, Conn., would supply 17 S-70B Seahawk helicopters to Ankara.
On Nov. 3, Sikorsky announced the contract signing and said deliveries would begin in 2009. The company termed the contract a "Lot 2 agreement," designed to expand Turkey's current S-70B fleet of seven Seahawks.
"It also provides solutions that help to clear the way for a new business partnership among Sikorsky, SSM and Turkish industry at a much more strategic level," Sikorsky president Jeffrey Pino said. |
