'U.S. officials said the Bush administration has obtained a pledge that Libya would not sell components to or buy from military equipment from countries that have refused to sign agreements that limit trade in ballistic missiles. The key agreement was the Missile Technology Control Regime, which bans the trade in missiles with a range of 300 or more kilometers and a payload of half a metric ton.
Libya issued a statement that said the pledge was a continuation of its commitment in December 2003 to ban programs, materials and equipment that would lead to the production weapons or delivery systems cited by the MTCR. The Libyan commitment would determine the relations of the North African country with other states.
