UAE Air ambulance team to rescue critically ill patients

To maintain a speedy and efficient emergency service, the capital will soon have an air ambulance rescue team to help critically ill patients and trauma cases in June, said an official.

"To provide quality first aid in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner, a new system of helicopter ambulance is likely to see the light of day in June, in order to take care of our patients' well being, care and comfort" said Mohammed bin Butti Al Qubaisi, Director of the Office of Shaikh Hamid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the Economic Department and Chairman of General Authority for Health Services for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi (GHAS).

Mr Qubaisi said the Authority has already embarked on implementing the project, which aims at ensuring safe transport for critical cases and facilitating proper relocation of injured people.

The daylong symposium, which was organised to mark the World Health Day, held under the theme: `Road Safety' attracted more than 400 participants form the UAE and the AGCC countries.

Mr Qubaisi said the project is a joint effort between the GHAS and the General Directorate of Abu Dhabi, to secure a medical air transport system for patients with critical health conditions.

He said the authority would also implement a comprehensive plan for developing all the emergency units at the capital's hospitals.

Responding to a question on the recent developments in the emergency services, Ahmed Al Rumaithi, Assistant Under-Secretary for Hospitals' Affairs at GHAS revealed that the authority had chalked out a project to establish a state-of-the-art trauma centre for the emirate of Abu Dhabi.

The first phase of the project includes introducing state-of-the-art medical equipment at emergency units in Al Mafraq, Tawam and SKMC to guarantee the safety, comfort and top-level medical care for patients.

"This project comes in line with the strategy of GHAS to ensure quality service," said Mr Rumaithi.
