Rosoboronexport Presents Russian Defence Industries at Dubai Air Show 2005 Rosoboronexport Presents Russian Defence Industries at Dubai Air Show 2005 (Source: Rosoboronexport; dated Nov. 17, web-posted Nov. 18, 2005) (Edited for length) The 9th International Aerospace Exhibition, Dubai Air Show 2005, will be held on 20-24 November 2005 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, with the assistance of the Government of Dubai, Department of Civil Aviation, and in collaboration with the UAE Armed Forces.

The air show is the biggest parade of military and civil aircraft, air defence and space technologies, staged biannually in the Middle East since 1989. Rosoboronexport State Corporation takes part in this exhibition for the fifth time. In accordance with the decision of the Government of the Russian Federation Rosoboronexport is to organise the national exposition presenting at the exhibition Russian leading defence enterprises. Russia’s exposition at Dubai Air Show 2005 promotes a wide range of the national aerospace industrial capabilities. It reflects most important areas of cooperation with the United Arab Emirates and other Middle East countries.

Over 200 aerospace and air defence systems, other military and dual-purpose equipment are offered for visitors’ familiarisation. Upgrades of almost the entire multi-generation MiG aircraft family, including the MiG-21BIS, MiG-23MLD, MiG-29M, and MiG-29M2, are presented at the air show. Demonstration flights of the MiG-29SMT multi-mission front-line fighter will certainly become show’s attraction. The second such aircraft will be on static display for detailed briefing of specialists. The 4+ generation MiG-29SMT combat aircraft is derived from the famous MiG-29 front-line fighter.

Contrary to baseline models, it is designed to engage efficiently both modern enemy fighters in air combat, and deliver strikes against ground targets. Upgrading of the in-service MiG-29s to MiG-29SMT’s level requires a set of measures to improve their weapons control system, in particular: by introducing the Zhuk-ME multi-mode onboard radar, extending guided weapons arsenal, and perfecting the fuel system and cockpit information and control instrumentation. After completing a set of measures to upgrade it to the MiG-29SMT level, combat efficiency of the modernised aircraft is augmented by 1.

8-2.2 times in air-to-air missions, and by more than 3.5 times in air-to-ground missions. Promotional materials on practically all export versions of Sukhoi-type family of combat aircraft, always in high demand in the world market, are also available at the show. These are: the Su-27SM fighter, Su-30MK and Su-35 multi-mission fighters, Su-32 multi-mission fighter-bomber, Su-24M front-line bomber, Su-25SM and Su-39 strikers, Su-33 shipborne aircraft. The Su-30MKI multi-mission super-agile combat aircraft will surely arouse a special interest. After successful implementation of the contract on delivery of the Su-30MKIs to the Indian Air Force, it has become the world’s only combat aircraft with thrust vectored engines in active service.

Russia’s exposition displays data on all types of Russian-made helicopters, in particular such as the Mi-35, Mi-35M, Mi-35P, Mi-28NE, Ka-50 and Ka-50-2 combat (transport-combat) helicopters; Mi-171Sh, Mi-17V5, Mi-17-1V and Mi-26 military transport helicopters; Ka-31 special-purpose helicopter; Ka-29 and Ka-28 shipborne helicopters. Specialists will undoubtedly be interested in the Mi-28NE Night Hunter new-generation agile all-weather attack helicopter selected by the Russian Ministry of Defence as Russian Army’s main combat helicopter. Experts predict equally good export prospects for the Mi-35M transport-combat helicopter, which is in fact a new development of Russian helicopter-builders.

Its flight envelope and combat capabilities have been considerably extended, compared with the baseline model, due to installation of more powerful engines, new rotor system, and advanced electronic equipment for round-the-clock operations. Rosoboronexport shows in its exposition a wide range of Russian air defence weapons. Some of them incorporate unique technologies, still unrivalled in the world and enjoying high competitiveness in the world market. Specialists and other guests will be able to familiarise themselves, in particular, with capabilities of the S-300PMU2 advanced air defence missile system (ADMS) and get full information on the Buk-M1-2 medium-range and Tor-M1 short-range ADMS, Tunguska-M1 anti-aircraft gun/missile self-propelled mount, and Igla man-portable ADMS.

Foreign partners will get latest details of unique upgrading technologies developed for Russian-made legacy air defence assets, such as ZU-23M and Strela-10M close-range, as well as Pechora-2 medium-range air defence weapon systems. Rosoboronexport State Corporation takes an active part in the international space cooperation, promoting various information and space technologies to foreign markets. At Rosoboronexport’s stand one can get data on the Condor-E all-weather Earth-surveillance system based on small space vehicles. It is designed to quickly acquire high-resolution data about objects situated on the Earth’s surface and maritime areas that can be used for large area ecological monitoring, warnings about natural and man-made disasters and accidents, mapping, natural resources exploration and control, solution of applied science problems, etc.

Taking into consideration the importance of Dubai Air Show for the development of military-technical cooperation with the UAE and other countries of the region, Rosoboronexport presents export products from beyond the scope of aerospace. They include armoured vehicles, artillery systems, ground target reconnaissance and targeting radars, special-purpose and infantry small arms. Rosoboronexport State Corporation and other Russian exhibitors consider Dubai Air Show 2005 as an important marketing venue for strengthening their cooperation with foreign partners, especially with the Middle East countries.
