BAE Systems, the biggest defence company in Europe with customers in more than 130 countries and annual sales of approximately $18bn, is out in full force to showcase the latest innovations and cutting edge technology at the Milipol Qatar 2004.
"Although we are better known for the development, delivery and support of advanced military and aerospace systems in the air, on land and at sea, BAE Systems also has extensive expertise in originating solutions that provide real-time information that can be used to make intelligent decisions", Simon Keith, BAE Systems Managing Director for Middle East told yesterday. However, the equipment and solutions being showcased by BAE Systems were not only limited to purely military use but to civilian as well.
" When talking about homeland security, you are talking about dealing both with the interior ministry and the defense ministry and we are finding that they are working closer and closer together in any country", he said.
Military systems are necessary and are used much more for civil security and crisis management, he said. The company has been in the Middle East for more than 30 years and maintains dedicated offices in Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Kuwait. Keith said the company's global network has a great deal to offer countries.
In the Middle East that are facing up to internal and external threats. He added that homeland security is as much about techniques and tactics as it is about technology but to understand them, a first class partner is required. "For example, Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance requires a project manager and partner with international experience. I believe that BAE Systems is that partner of choice for homeland security:, he said.
He added that some of these equipment are being used on trial here in the Gulf region in a very demanding environment. "It is a whole very sophisticated, but very easy to operate new systems and that is what will be demonstrating to visitors here", he said. Company is offering a package which covers land, sea, air and command control capability according to the requirements of potential customers, he said.
