United Defense Awarded $42.9 Million for Joint Program to Reset Bradley Fighting Vehicles Returning from Operation Iraqi Freedom

United Defense Industries, Inc. has been awarded a $42.9 million contract modification by the U.S. Army`s Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) to team with the Red River Army Depot (RRAD) and the Army`s PM Combat Systems to reset, or make combat ready, 131 Bradley A2ODS vehicles returning from Operation Iraqi Freedom.

"The Bradley Fighting Vehicle has served the soldier well, providing superior survivability in both desert warfare and in urban combat. Many of these vehicles have seen a decade`s worth of wear and tear in a short timeframe but we will team with the Army to return these vehicles to our soldiers combat ready," said Andy Hove, Director of Bradley Combat Systems for United Defense.

The contract includes an option worth $3.8 million to integrate the enhanced 25mm main gun used on the Bradley A3 into these vehicles. United Defense, in conjunction with RRAD and the Army, will return the vehicles to soldiers combat ready under this modification to a multi-year corporate contract. United Defense will receive the vehicles at its Fayette County facility, partially disassemble them, and ship over three dozen subsystems and components - including engines, transmissions, gun systems, suspension, turret drives and other hardware - to RRAD for repair and overhaul.

Final assembly and test will be conducted at United Defense`s York, Pa. facility. Work on this effort has started and vehicles will be delivered in the first quarter of 2006. United Defense designs, develops and produces combat vehicles, artillery, naval guns, missile launchers and precision munitions used by the U.S. Department of Defense and allies worldwide, and provides non-nuclear ship repair, modernization and conversion to the U.S. Navy and other U.S. Government agencies.
